Shine 2009 - Our Nation

Label: Modular Recordings
Format: CD
Bland and sluggish electro-pop on debut album from Helisinki-based group, Shine2009

Review

Surveys often praise Finland's educational system, but albums like 'Our Nation' prove how in the capital of that country less-talented musicians too can succeed. Shine 2009 make the best of their phlegmatic inertia grooves, bouncing electro-pop music that with a touch you'd sooner expect from Vienna or Paris. Their lazy languish, however, eventually got the worst of me. Yet again gaining maximum from utterly economic melody lines, 'Our House' is refined silliness. It is a bit like fish 'n chips with a good glass of bubbles. Their grammar and idiom sounds a bit like it is in Finglish, but that's easily forgiven as there's a Suomi narrative in there as well. Deep house beats towards the epilogue track of 'Our Nation' disclose a new flavour, yet the idiotic lyrics, harmed by a drug-dazed disability to speak or sing, join the beats in blandness.
