Andre Williams - Life

Label: Alive Naturalsound
Format: CD
Forceful latest album from septagenarian Chicago-based R and B musician, Andre Williams

Review

76 year old Andre Williams has been writing, recording and performing R&B, blues, country and garage music since 1955. Around 1998 a much younger audience embraced his sleazy cool. 'Life' is his second album this year already. Ther is a stomping version of 'Shake a Tail Feather', which he co-wrote way back when, but the most remarkable track is 'Blame it on Obama' in which he aptly describes America today. 'Ty the Fly' is another moralistic gem and in fact there are no dull tracks to be found on 'Life'. Apparently he converted to Judaism and who knows, he might turn to klezmer, which could be great fun. He tries a little reggae, and even better still, ska which works well. Williams' characteristic gravel voice shows no sign of weakening.
