Melancholic and haunting EP from Nu Nog Even Niet, the new project of Sleepingdog and True Bypass's Chantal Acda, who was inspired to create its music after hearing the poetry of Dutch poetess Lotte Dodion at a reading
Review
Nu Nog Even Niet is the child of Chantal Acda, who was inspired to create the music after hearing the poetry of Lotte Dodion at a reading. Visual artist Inge Bos was then called in to supplement the project with some line drawings. Acda has performed with Isbells, True Bypass and Sleepingdog and musically, the project - which is sequenced as a single 25-minute track, but is based around five distinct poems - falls most closely in line with the latter’s drifting and melancholy sound.
It starts off with a gentle piano melody and Acda’s voice (she sings in Dutch), and largely stands by those two elements, though other noises occasionally flicker in and out, and one section is largely a wordless melange of backtracked brushing. As the EP reaches its end it segues into some fingerpicked guitar.
This pretty work should appeal to fans of A Winged Victory For The Sullen (which not so coincidentally features Acda’s Sleepingdog collaborator Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie), Bon Iver and other purveyors of simple loveliness.
