San Cisco - Awkward EP

Label: Fat Possum
Format: CDS
Energetic and summery debut EP from Arctic Monkeys-influenced Australian group, San Cisco

Review

San Cisco are a group of Aussie kids clearly schooled on a syllabus of Grouplove, Vampire Weekend and, in respect of lead singer Jordi Davieson's vocal delivery, Alex Turner. While this is certainly no bad thing, this Fremantle four-piece also add their own welcome splash of sunshine to make this EP a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The title track, with its call and response vocal duelling between Davieson and drummer Scarlett Stevens, may well have brought the group a fair degree of publicity, but as fine as it is, it isn't even the best track on the EP. That honour just about goes to the wonderful 'Lover', though the joyously energetic 'Rocket Ship'" pushes it very close. A fairly true cover of the Arctic Monkeys '505' is also included in case any further confirmation of a major influence was needed and the token, but by no means throwaway, slow song, 'Reckless' completes a stunning collection. San Cisco may just be the heatwave this summer so lacked.
