Clumsy Afro funk on debut album from Rocket Juice & the Moon, the latest project of Damon Albarn
Review
Damon Albarn has become the David Bowie of today, never originating yet always keen to follow a trend. Style over idea as a concept never lasts long though. On this album, Damon does the Fela Kuti and not much anything extra it must be noted. It's not all tedious crap of course. 'Nightwatch' tries to merge George Clinton's P-Funk with Afro beats, and the effort deserves praise.
The single advantage this debut holds is that of being original material, and no end product from crate digging Afro funk DJs using computers. The Rocket Juice & the Moon album, however, sounds a tad bit like a clumsy Gilles Petersen radio show.
