Fantastic third album from Bradford-based noise rock two-piece, That Fucking Tank

Review

Coming out all guns blazing from that hub of alternative music Bradford, That Fucking Tank make a right fucking racket. And it’s fantastic. I was first introduced to them around 4 years ago after hearing whisperings about this instrumental, two piece who were making great waves down in the Leeds scene - which I’ve been a massive fan of for a good while. I was lucky enough to get to say some words about their last album, ‘Tankology’, so when news came of their latest offering I pounced. Always a band to where their current influences on their sleeves - and write about them in the album sleeve - it’s great to listen along and pick out bits and pieces that you’d recognise as being influenced by, or paying homage to other great bands before them. I only wish I was a lot more in touch with things to know more about the underground bands That Fucking Tank mention. By citing bands as varied as Crass, Dire Straits and Voorhees their music, along with the brilliant fact that they’ve written a little piece about each tune on this album and where it roughly came from, just makes you fall deeper in love with this music and this band. Deeply eclectic and clearly absolute music geeks of the coolest ilk, Andy Abbott and James Islip clearly have a huge thirst for all kinds of music and have carved themselves a place at the heart of the British underground scene. ’TFT’ sees the former school friends celebrate 20 years of playing music together, which is no mean feat for two chaps barely into their thirties. The phrase ’Riff-disco’ is used to describe the musical stylings and I find this to be quite a good account of the noise that they project. Always managing to capture the live energy that they’ve honed over the years, ’TFT’ is a great body of work. If you’ve yet to hear them they are an absolute must.
