Excellent second release from psychedelic-influenced London-based band, Young Husband
Review
Young Husband are a London four-piece fronted by Evan Hinshelwood, who is also in Emmy The Great. The 'Crystal EP' is the follow-up to their 'Nothing, Nothing/Carousel' single on Too Pure.
'Tropic of Cancer' appears twice firstly as a radio edit and then in an extended version at the end. It is a pleasant, jangly affair, but takes a while before it sucks you in. It recalls the Austin, Texas band the Black Angels in its growing pyschedelic mannerisms.
'Constantly in Love' is a slow burner. It has a passion in its fire, and it becomes hypnotic in much the same way as it does watching a lava lamp slowly change its textures.
'Neon Heartbreak' is more psychedelic and trippy, and is reminiscent of Syd-Barrett-era Pink Floyd.
'Reunion Message' is much faster and instantly catchy. The guitars suck you in and carry the track well, while the vocals take a good while to join in, but when they do the track gets better for them. This fine EP ends with an extended take of 'Tropic Cancer'.
A superb second offering!
