Most likely to be ranked and filed under emo math rock, 'Devoured Trees & Crystal Skies' combines emotive vocals and a very tight, systematically composed type of metal music. Gradually the compositions gain more melodic qualities and on track 6, 'Circles', tranquil and harp-like snares clash with sonic outbursts in an immensely fine way. Young and aspiring, Aristillus remain undecided which path to follow. Testerone fuelled 17-year olds that they are, Aristillus, however, reach great heights with their distorted guitar chords that naturally explode in sheer magnificence. 'Exit, Evolve' hammers down even harder and the vocals neatly catch up with the sped up math rock, followed by 'When The Flower Grows' which is in the same vein, but even harsher, a tad looser, and much wilder. It takes a little bit of time before 'Devoured Trees & Crystal Skies' becomes all clear but it's a very fine debut. Loud, uncompromising and perfectly in tune.
