Clinical dubstep on latest offering from Copenhagen-based band, Rumpistol
Review
Electronic wizardry never was alien to Denmark's computer hippies. Much slower than anything from Rotterdam or Southwark, these six tracks do dubstep as if it's their verdammte own tango. The bellowing backbeats prove alright, yet I can't help feeling the wooden shoe touch to these shuffles sets in with a precarious sniffing at those dubstep riddims. I like my dubstep a bit more negro, if you don't mind. 'Talk To You' is just a little too clinical for my taste. 'Mix #4' finally comes to the rescue, when for the first time the beats dig well below the surface, but it shows there simply is not enough grime to challenge Berlin or London.
Rump Records is a recognized force in music, yet never has been fully appreciated for bringing mayhem into dubstep. And still, Rump entered the world of dubstep, by secret agreement exclusively held in London, or perhaps in Bristol, I do not know. The format that gave name to 'dubstep' must by chance, luck or coincidence, have found fertile ground around Copenhagen.
'Talk to You' is a lovely blend though of a slightly irate electronic melody line. To fall by its grace would be another thing.
