Dark Sky Singers - The Harrowing

Label: Static Caravan
Format: 7"
Orchestral pastiche of folk and pop on stunning debut single from Newcastle-based collective, the Dark Sky Singers

Review

The Dark Sky Singers sound as if Tunng, stage 2, have returned to form. Warm yet with a distinctive distance, the Dark Sky Singers contemplate playing pop or playing folk music and ultimately perform an orchestral pastiche of both. The echo of the affectionate voice of the once great Tunng is only half of the Dark Sky Singers' attraction. The subtle snare play and composed performance lead to a sense of perfect purification. I am not entirely sure what I am writing about, but I can assure that this is a wonderful EP no matter who made it.
