Fantastic introduction to the roots of popular electronic music in third volume in the 'Bustin' Out' series, each of which concentrates on a different year in influential 1980's music
Review
Just a few months after the last instalment in the 'Bustin’ Out' compilation series, volume three is among us, and this time they focus on the year 1983, showing us that there was plenty more music that year than 'Billie Jean' and 'Karma Chameleon'.
The earlier compilations have all been quite varied when it comes to the styles of music, even though the post punk/experimental sides have been quite popular. But this time, all the 14 songs contained here are more or less electronical, with songs spanning from the minimalistic sounds of John Carpenter to the etno beats of tThe Unknown Cases, via Cocteau Twins, New Order, Anne Clarke and Laid Back (does anyone remember their hit from the early 90‘s, 'Baker Man'?).
As with previous volumes in this series, this is a fantastic introduction to the roots of popular electronic music, so anyone with the slightest interest in pop music history should definitely check out this series of CD’s. But, with that said, not all the songs here are brilliant. Some are even more or less irritating to listen to, but that’s not really important in this review.
The most important thing is how well-made the compilation is, and I must say that compiler Mike Maguire has done a splendid job here!
