Vaus - The Floating Celebration

Label: Night World
Format: CD
Pleasant, but undemanding psychedelia on debut album from Vaus, the project of Boston-based actor and screenwriter Lyn Vaus

Review

Vaus - Lyn Vaus, that is - makes his living as an actor and screenwriter, and has either written or appeared in a number of independent films, of which the best know is perhaps the Miramax released ‘Next Stop Wonderland’. Although Vaus does have a musical background in raucous Boston post-punkers Carnal Garage, his first solo album, ‘The Floating World’ keeps its feet well inside the world of psychedelica. Vaus’ voice bears a striking resemblance to a higher-register Lou Reed, particularly in the phrasing, while the swirling sounds behind him might remind some of such cult-psychedelica figures as Anton Barbeau and the Green Pajamas. Although ‘The Floating World’ does drift by without making much of an impression at times, it’s generally groovy atmosphere make for a pleasant if low-key trip.
