Gorgeous combination of folk, country, rock and psychedelia on fantastic new single from Manchester six-piece, the Travelling Band
Review
The Travelling Band, a Manchester six-piece, have come out with a new single 'Sundial' from their forthcoming, as yet untitled second album. 'Sundial' immediately envelops the listener in gorgeous, swirling sound. The captivating beat draws you right in.
Theirs is a mix of folk, country, rock and understated psychedelia. The Travelling Band are Adam Gorman, Jo Dudderidge, Steve “Snaf” Ballinger and Steve Mullen- all on vocals and guitars (each are also multi instrumentalists), plus Chris Spencer on bass and Nick Vaal on drums.
The lyrics of 'Sundial' are instantly meaningful with a strong spiritual quality as they speak about a feeling of displacement: “If I had a home to call my own, then I wouldn’t need a sundial to stop me roaming around.” The glorious refrain repeats as the Travelling Band does away with the need for a standard verse. The result is beautiful and euphoric.
'Sundial' includes strings and horns and rich layers of instrumentation as well as a compelling vocal. The poignant lyrics continue. “Searching for the answers in the riddles of the night”- a truly thought provoking song.
In the end, 'Sundial' is hypnotic and deserving of great attention. With this single, the Travelling Band creates music that is purely addictive.
