Excellent retrospective of field recordings compiled from fifteen years of material for Ogrob, the side project of experimental French guitarist Sébastien Borgo, who is also a member of post punk group Sun Plexus 2
Review
Sébastien Borgo collected a myriad of sounds to be included on his 'The Mentally Disturbed as an Artist' album. The process of recording and producing took over 15 years and the vaults that Borgo/Ogrob was able to plunder were built from field recordings, archived new wave sonics plus fiercely bellowing drones. From a sudden sneer like ' ... Sur Une Planche À Clous' to the blinding ferocity of '2033 Guitares' the album mood swings inbetween aural torment and perplexed adventures. The red thread to these tracks remains the excursion into the jungle of disparate noise.
If there can be such a thing as dark, white noise, Ogrob knows how to perform it. Often simply fading in and out, the collected tracks work towards a brooding quality in the middle. The minimal and industrial recordings may appear grim but there are wicked sides to 'Ein Geisteskranker Als Künstler' such as 'Le Temple du Rock' where a member of the audience at an installation unwantonly became the protagonist. Not giving away the pun, but you'll love it.
