Excellent and often upbeat debut album from versatile Parisian three piece and former space rockers, Yeti Lane
Review
Yeti Lane are Ben, LoAc and Charlie, whom all were formerly members of Parisian space rockers Cyann and Ben, but with their self-titled debut album they have found a new direction. Currently the album is doing well and is Album of the Week in Rough Trade and on their current best sellers list.
It opens with 'First Rate Pretender', which has a homemade camp fire song feel to it, and despite being recorded in a studio, sounds like the sort of thing that Bon Iver might have recorded.
'Twice' sounds very much like Arthur Lee's Love during the mid 1960's and is very cool and groovy. 'Black Soul' has a lonesome twang to it, but it is a record of contrasts and is sung in a summery, sunny southern Californian way.
'Think It's Done, is a chill out track and late night music to drink decent wine too. 'Tiny Correction' is soft and folky and has the flavour of Belle and Sebastian.
'Only One Look has a quirky, experimental feel, while 'Lucky Bag'is gentle and very twee. Recent single 'Lonesome George' is fast and upbeat, reminiscent again of Belle and Sebastian.
'Solar' has a strong Pixies-style bass line, while the vocal is a lonesome howl of human suffering. The whole track is elegant and well paced, while 'Heart's Architecture' is a happy number, which is lush and full of life.
An excellent debut album from this Parisian three-piece.
