Upbeat power pop-influenced first single from their second album for Boston-based group, the Hush Now
Review
Ah, the CD single, a format whose time surely seems to have come and gone. But let's save that discussion for another time and instead focus on 'Hoping and Waiting' by Boston's the Hush Now. This is the first single from their forthcoming sophomore album, ,Constellations'. And it truly is a single. As in only one song.
'Hoping and Waiting' is an appropriately upbeat and somewhat power pop-ish tune that somehow manages to have a bit of operatic singing and trumpet blasts in the mix. The lead vocals from vocalist Noel Kelly are pushed forward in the mix, but the drums and bass do a nice job of pushing things along. The chorus struck me as being very fitting for a romantic-comedy film. That may or may not be a good thing.
I guess the main purpose of a CD single is to entice one to listen to the full length album when it comes out. As such, I think 'Hoping and Waiting' offers enough upbeat, power pop-ish oomph to do the job.
