Review

'Poetry of the Deed' is Frank Turner's third studio album. Frank has risen quite quickly over the past couple of years from supporting punk and folk bands to headlining his own tour over the Autumn which has already sold out in a number of venues. This is an album of lively folk rock, tackling diverse subjects such as making your own music that's meaningful in 'Try This at Home'. 'Sons of Liberty' is a political song, that swerves between typical Frank with a smattering of the Levellers. Frank is great at writing anthemic songs that get you tapping your feet and singing along. 'The Road' is an ode to the touring lifestyle, and the freedom it brings. The album uses his full band, not a solo effort, which allows scope for more instruments and a bigger sound that suits Frank's sound. Musically it varies from punk anthems to Irish folk violins, but overall maintains the punk folk sound that we've come to associated with Frank Turner.
