Nodzzz - Nodzzz

Label: What's Your Rupture
Format: CD
Deceptively simple and upbeat lo-fi indie rock on debut album from quirky American band, Nodzzz

Review

Nodzzz are a quirky bunch who deal in American lo-fi indie music which sounds like it’s all about the good times. Upon first listen I struggled to get by the quality of it because of the occasional bum note, but as I listened more closely and intently my city eyes disappeared and I started to let the simple melodies weave their way into my head I began to enjoy it all a lot more. Very much in the post punk/indie sound of American bands of the mid to late 80’s with a much more upbeat and carefree vibe, the beauty of this music is its simplicity, which is the sort of thing that can be easily missed and I was very nearly guilty of with my modern lazy, radio-tuned ears. This is not really my fault though. I get Radio 1 pumped into my brain at work on a daily basis and you quickly become tuned into the over produced and under-felt crap that crowds music these days. Nodzzz are a real remedy to this with their delicate yet passionate songs. Many of the songs clock in at around a minute such as 'Highway Memorial Shrine’,‘Controlled Karaoke’ and the gorgeous ‘Losing My Accent’, but sooncharm you. Songs like ‘Simple Song’ and ‘City Has No Eyes’ have a real polite angst to them that reveal the energy of this band. ‘In the City’ is very similar to ‘Zurich’ by Pavement and this is a good indicator of Nodzzz’s vibe and overall sound. Very comfortable in what it is and a warts and all representation of their music this album is a breath of semi-fresh air in a world of over produced music
