Wednesday 13 - Bloodwork

Label: DR2
Format: CDS
Great collection of acoustic versions,re-recordings and covers on, despite several album releases, first ever EP from glam/punk star Wednesday 13

Review

'Bloodwork' is the long expected new release from glam/punk star Wednesday 13, and despite several album releases, is his first very EP. Although being initially (and unexpectedly) released in April 2008 via iTunes, 'Bloodwork' is now available on CD, which is something I am distinctly grateful for. 'Bloodwork' can be best viewed as an example of the true breadth of Wednesday 13’s diversity, and effectively encapsulates the bouncy-punk of his previous albums ('Fang Bang' etc), with the more sombre tone of his latest work 'Skeletons'. For me, the true stand out track is his cover of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' 'Running Down a Dream', which is simply stunning. It must be noted that there is no new material here, as 'Bloodwork' consists of acoustic versions, re-recordings and covers. Fans hoping to find new Wednesday 13 material will be sadly disappointed. Having said that, the tracks are sufficiently different from the originals (the acoustic versions of 'Skeletons' and 'My Demise' are wonderfully played). Quite possibly the weakest track here is 'Return of the Living Dead', but only because the others are of such high quality. It is still, however, a strong number when viewed on its own. 'I Love To Say Fuck', despite being previously released, was re-recorded for this album due to the difficulty newer fans had in finding this particular track. Overall, despite the lack of new material, this is a great CD, and one that I would recommend for anyone wanting to fully appreciate Wednesday 13’s full capabalites.

1 B-Movie Babylon
2 Return Of The Living Dead
3 Runnin' Down A Dream
4 I Love To Say Fuck
