Haunting debut single from Marmaduke Duke, the side project of Simon Neil from Biffy Clyro and JP Reid of Sucioperro
Review
Marmaduke Duke are an outfit made up of two people with mysterious, but great names, The Dragon and The Atmosphere. They make a cheekily dark sound that is both hauntingly beautiful and totally accessible.
Predominantly comprised of drums and very minimal synths with a repetitive vocal rhythm, ‘Kid Gloves, their debut single, gets right into your subconsciousness very quickly. Fans of the likes of the Postal Service will love this as it has a perfect electronic sound which mixed in with sincere lyrics give it an incredible depth.
Of course it is glaringly obvious to anyone who hasn’t been in hiding for the past few years that the vocal talents of ‘The Atmosphere’ do of course belong to Simon Neil of Scottish heroes Biffy Clyro, which for me is reason enough alone to check these guys out. His voice is perfect for this music which is co-composed by JP Reid ('The Dragon') of Sucioperro.
This certainly sounds like the sort of side project that will end up with a cult following and deservedly so. Definitely one of the best singles I have heard over the last year. These guys are really worth seeking out.
