Rumpistol - Dynamo

Label: Rump Recordings
Format: CD
Quirky, off-kilter electronica on third album from Rumpistol, the project of Copenhagen-based musician Jens Christiansen

Review

First of all, it's not about rum as in the cane spirit drink here. This Danish space gun, as Rumpistol apparently translates in English, reproduces energy just by playing key notes. Rumpistol is the brainchild of Jens Christiansen and this third album features refining moments which were inspired by the two previous Rumpistol CDs. 'Dynamo' is Rumpistol's most elaborate effort yet and it is a distillation of the quirky and off-kilter electronica Rumpistol had been recording since 2003 in their native Copenhagen. Foremost, 'Dynamo' is Rumpistol's goodbye to glitch electronica music. In having done away with the samples of disturbed computer sounds, we get to hear eight tracks which will fascinate any eager ear. 'Dynamo' evokes moments of gentleness and inspiration. The tingling of the mind leads to a mind boggling effect over the stretch of the tracks on offer. 'Beito' catches both those patterns in one and works like the album's central point. On side B, as it were, you will hear the extrapolation of song structures once designed for crummy little releases. And 'Dynamo' shows to be a big leap forwards from those days.
