Cuddly and bubbly, but ultimately somewhat lacklustre electronic lounge music from Manchester-based experimental artist, Mrs Jynx
Review
Out of the blue, an office kitten appears and starts to gently rub its back against your ankles and calves. She's so sweet and you cannot help to like her very much. Her softly-softly purring electronica and moody turns try to capture your full attention. Swaying electronic lounge music sets the tone on 'The Standoffish Cat'. And just when you start to fear for lengthy electronic noodlings, 'Dusty' jumps up but quickly has to make way for more radiator generated ambience.
On the album, Mrs Jynx transforms from acting like your everyday glitch streetcat to being an alternative modern composer with one hand in mini-house. Mrs. Jynx flirts with the likes of Warp Records, or Audio Dregs in The US of A. but fails to reach genuinely great heights. Cuddly and bubbly electronica in a long set of thirteen tracks are a bit too much for my liking but the little jewels of compositions in between make up. These are all heavenly sounds and you'd wish for a little more scratching and adventurous behaviour.
That reward comes in 'Got It 2' with jolly moog synthesizer beats. 'The Standoffish Cat' then curls up again near your desk and the digital snoring begins once more.
