Immaculate dubstep on excellent new EP from Eskmo, the project of Californian musician Brendan Angelides
Review
The third release on Shoreditch, London's Studio Rockers, the dubstep offshoot from the everlasting Botchit And Scarper label, is Eskmo's EP. He's Brendan Angelides from Bay Area, USA and by ingenuity and by deconstructed breakbeat wit - if there's such a description - Eskmo adds a Californian touch to a dance genre usually thought of to be originating from London.
The EP's leading 'Willow Grail' track - a most upliftingly little dub, is graced with plenty of rain shower effects to guide you through, yet when the spacious Eskmo San Francisco beats drop on the playful and enlightened 'Process' this Eskmo ride really starts to become a pleasure. 'Process' wahwahs itself in through fields of broken beats and ultimately leads to a welcome bit of dance music confusion. The honours go to the 'Trudge' track, however; sloping and dragging through acres of tick-tock percussion, it reaches an immaculate conception.
