Fighting With Wire - Man Vs Monster

Label: Smalltown America
Format: CD
Impressively raw post-hardcore on debut album from hard touring Derry trio, Fighting With Wire

Review

Ireland’s hardest working band shows no signs of slowing down with debut offering, 'Man VS Monster'. Trying to place Fighting With Wire within the UK/Irish scene has always been impossible as, well, let’s face it the Derry mob should hail from Washington and be on Dischord due to their post hardcore leanings. Yes, many a lazy music hack has compared them to the Foo Fighters without having given them the time of day. And true, singer Cahir O’Doherty does sound s bit like the former Nirvana drummer, but if anything, Fighting With Wire are much more than Ireland’s answer to David Grohl’s over-hyped mob. Opener 'Cut The Transmission' is an absolute corker, reminiscent of Irish hardcore legends Kerbdog, easy on the ears but not too polished at the same time. Stand out track for me is 'Strength In Numbers', complete with solo, which puts everyone of Fighting With Wire’s peers to shame on the ‘how good was that’ ratio. Recent single, 'Everyone Needs a Nemesis', is certain to get this band the recognition they finally deserve. 'Man VS Monster' is a gem of an album and hopefully, will finally dispel Fighting With Wire’s critics and make them learn to write better and draw their own conclusions on how good this band are.
