Soulful new vinyl only single from hip-hop act SugaRush Beat Company which seems destined to be part of the soundtrack to the summer
Review
‘Gunshots and Candyfloss’ is the new single from multi-national outfit SugaRush Beat Company. It is the first of many songs that are going to be emerging over the next few months that have the sound of the fast approaching summer all over it. You can imagine this being played as you drive around in the blazing hot sun, and it setting the day off perfectly.
With echoes of Outkast at their poppiest best, SugaRush Beat Company's vocals come from Rashaan Patterson, who sounds a little similar to Morcheeba which is certainly a good thing. Her vocals are incredibly soulful and so strong.
With random little noises and samples thrown in to build the sound, this is a great song that I can easily imagine taking up loads of radio play over the next few months and being part of the soundtrack to summer 2008. It is upbeat, but of course with the dark hint that any good hip-hop song has. It has a hint of trip hop about it with its production and reliance on a tune along with a repetitive chorus which gets in your head in a totally welcome way.
You’ll hear it soon enough I’m sure.
