Unsatisfactory compilation of singles, album tracks, sessions and unreleased songs from unlistenable and now broken-up Scottish act, Khaya
Review
In 2001, I bought a 7” single with a band called Khaya, just because they were label mates with ballboy, one of my favourite bands at the time. The single was called 'Do the Thing', and I liked it a lot, mostly because it, musically, reminded me of… well, ballboy.
A bit later on, I bought one of their albums, 'The Lost Feeling', from this very site and realized that the single was a lucky pick, as the album was as good as unlistenable.
Now, SL Records is releasing a compilation of Khaya’s singles, some album tracks and some sessions and unreleased songs, and when I listen to it I can only agree with my own thoughts back when I bought the full-length record. Apart from some great pop songs, like the aforementioned 'Do the Thing' and 'Love and Whips', most of the tracks here are just noise, and this is one of the reasons that they invented the “program”-button on your CD-player.
