Welcome back to Penny Black Music Night! The exciting news is that this is going to be our 10th event. The sad news is that it’s going to be the ever last event at the London Spitz. As you may already know, the Spitz is leaving its current premises at the end of the September, although it will hopefully relocate elsewhere in London. We were lucky enough to get a chance to come back for this one last time and are hoping you will join us. The Penny Black Music Night will take place at the Spitz on Sunday the 9th September. Doors will, however, open at the early time of 3pm already! And this time we will be bringing you 7 bands, one secret guest and great music from the Uptight DJs with the licence and skills to make you dance! Joe Gideon Joe Gideon (The ex Bikini Atoll and current lead singer of Joe Gideon and the Shark) will open the event. I’d love to give you an idea what you can be looking forward to but as this is Joe’s first solo performance I can’t wait to see what he comes up with. Two things you can bet on are his great charismatic voice and just as powerful and creative song writing. Kelman The next band up will be Kelman who consist of brothers Wayne and Mark Gooderham and Paul Ragsdale. Their melancholic but at the same time soothing music is very easy to take in. By now you will probably be starting on your first beer or glass of wine and you can really start relaxing. Saint Joan We are very pleased to welcome the Nottingham band Saint Joan back. Even though influenced by Tindersticks, the Incredible String Band, Nick Cave and many more great bands, Saint Joan have created a great character of their own. Violin and piano bring their music softness while Ellen McGee, the lead singer and songwriter, gives the music real character but also gentleness. Friends Fronted by singer William Jones, indie pop band Friends have had various line-ups since forming in 1986. This will be their third show since they returned to live work earlier this year after a 10 year absence, and they will be playing tracks from their just released ninth album, 'Spangleland', as well as some old favourites. Rothko It’s been 10 years this spring since Rothko, the London based band, formed. So we couldn’t have chosen a better time to ask them to join the line-up of the 10th Penny Black Music Night. They have gone through many line-up changes and with every change their music has changed also. Rothko are famously known for their emotive music. Even thought they are an instrumental band, you can hear the music speaking clearly. Hey Negrita Hey Negrita can be anything you want them to be. If you feel happy, they will lift you even higher but if you are down today they won’t let you stay there on your own. Centered around singer Felix Bechtolsheimer, this much acclaimed group play gritty Americana tunes and will soon be releasing their third album. Bitter Springs Bitter Springs will close the whole night with their punk-indie-folk music. The band, lead by Simon Rivers, are known for their riotous guitars, a scraped violin, wonky piano and sing-a-long choruses and are anything but shy about it. Uptight DJs will provide great music throughout the whole day until night. Come along and dance to the Jesus & Mary Chain, New Order, the Velvet Underground, Kraftwerk, the Clash, Bob Dylan, Primal Scream, Elvis and more and more. You get all of this for £ 6 through Ticket Web or £ 8 on the door on the night. You can order your ticket from ticketweb at the following link www.ticketweb.co.uk/user/?region=gb_london&query=detail&event=229003 So here you go! The very last Penny Black Music Night at the Spitz! Don’t miss your chance. As someone once said “It’s better to do more then regret missing out on something later.” _________________________________________________________________
