Battle - The Longest Time/Takuya

Label: Transgressive Records
Format: 7"
First-rate new single from London indie guitar band Battle, their first since their 'Back to Earth' mini album last year

Review

This is the first sight of new material from London indie guitar band Battle since their ‘Back to Earth’ mini album came out last October, and ‘Beautiful Dynasty’,a very limited 7 inch which came out so quietly at the same time that I had to get mine months later on ebay. ‘The Longest Time’ begins sounding something like the intro to the Beatles’ ‘Revolver’, before it moves up a gear and ends up sounding like a great Teardrop Explodes number. Jason' Bavandan’s vocal is somewhere in the middle between Julian Cope and Ian McCulloch’s on this and the outro has some of the rawest guitar I have heard from the band. ‘Takuya’, the other side of this limited-to-500 copies release, sounds like the Bunnymen at their most dubby and experimental. Jason’s vocals edge towards a cockney groove in the style of Kele Obereke from Bloc Party, while again it has a thrashy ending There are definitely more bows to Battle’s sword on the evidence of these two songs than those we originally had. Excellent stuff !

Track Listing:-

1 The Longest Time
2 Takuya
