Master Solo - Dancehall Music

Label: Hungry Audio
Format: 7"
First-rate hillbilly-style debut release on vinyl from Master Solo, the nom de plume of Norwich-based musician Mark Jennings

Review

Master Solo, aka Mark Jennings, is a big player on the Norwich scene, working also with the brilliant Giant Robot and the City of Tokyo and doing his other solo project, Sukoshi, where he sows his electro seeds. Jennings was also part of Norwich band Postelowa, now splintered into Tiger MCs, KatnKowala and, of course, Master Solo. This (official) debut release from Mr Solo presents us with one hillbilly-style, foot-stomping, barnyard boogie track in the form of the fantastic 'Dance Hall Music', and a fantastic indie-pop track called, suitably, 'Pop' (my favourite of the two songs on this 7"). Dance Hall Music is a tremendously enjoyable record. I defy anyone to listen to 'Pop' and not spend the rest of the day singing its chorus to themselves. A very worthy addition to the brilliant and diverse music that continues to come out of Norwich.

Track Listing:-

1 Dancehall Music
2 Pop

Somewhat monotonous, but promising debut album from Master Solo, the project of Norwich-based musician whose folk/pop music is largely built around acoustic guitar and drum machines
