Paint by numbers metal on debut album from Raindayfuckparsde, the new band of ex-Unborn guitarist Nigel Morton and North by Northwest drummer Paul Dudley

Review

Formed by ex-Unborn guitarist Nigel Morton and North by Northwest drummer Paul Dudley in 2004, Rainydayfuckparade are pretenders to a long forgotten throne. Completing the line-up with Tom Hooper on vocals and Stuart Conney on bass, the band represent the surest argument yet that the pro-choice lobby has the upper hand; this band should have been aborted before it started. Their first recording, 'Meridian', is the usual paint by numbers metal that will have fans of the genre falling under trains in paroxysm of glee, literally unable to contain the rising fire within them, whilst leaving the rest of us mere mortals indifferent at best. Whilst Rainydayfuckparade cover all the bases of a competent metal band, they are brutal without being genocidal, aggression without passion and even dilatants in the field will have heard this all before. The usual grab bay of styles is presented here, evidentially without the slightest thought to progression. Industry standard double bass drumming that could have come from the back of a lorry is tied haphazardly to acharging guitar riff and doused with face shredding vocal hollering. Although there are occasional breaks in the cloud to allow a clean guitar strum to shine through like a ray of light, the album is virtually relentless in its application of these elements, with each track difficult to differentiate from the one that precedes and follows. Same old tricks with some new faces.
