Messy-sounding and ultimately uninvolving mix of styles on debut album from Various
Review
How many false starts can an album have? Various' 'The World Is Gone' kicks off like a melodic breakbeat album. The second track is sung as a country ballad with spacey effects beneath the female vocals and on track number three we arrive at a'basic channel' dub station - which could be in Berlin. And that's the type of music Various choose to continue playing with. They have a geezer doing vocals too! His interaction works well when #1 goes into #2 yet by #5 he falls through the roof.
Perhaps this is just a spoof of XL Recordings, trying to make us believe it's one band. File as so-so mixtape instead.
