Accomplished collection of hiphop, club and breakbeats from on reissued first album from last year for hedonistic Nottingham-based outfit the Virus Syndicate
Review
Isn't Nottingham supposed to be England's number one gun town? Gunchester as the Virus Syndicate calls their hometown - Gaychester, or whatever - Manchester's the Virus Syndicate deliver a fine debut; full of wit, and with enough dope beats to last for almost the entire LP - a reissue with a few new tracks actually.
The Virus Syndicate is drum and bass DJ-producer Mark One and MC's JSD, Goldfinger and Nika D and they test out a little grime vibe but 'The Work Related Illness' is an accomplished first offering with lots of hiphop, club and breakbeats mashed together for good urban measure. Evidently enjoying themselves in a hedonistic and sarcastic manner - " .. (mugger:) gimme a dollar, a dollar / (virus:) You're in The UK man .. " the four funketeers have put together a sort of concept album, now that the new single and two exclusives were added to last year's release.
