Pipettes - Dirty Mind

Label: Memphis Industries
Format: 7"
Very enjoyable fifth single and first CD release for Phil Spector-influenced all girl group the Pipettes

Review

'Dirty Mind' is the fifth single by Brighton's the Pipettes, but the first of their recordings to be released on CD. All their past releases on Gaylord, Bored, Transgressive and Unpopular, all of which came out on 7 " vinyl, sold out on their first day of release. As well as new track 'Dirty Mind', this single also consists of two old songs, 'Tell Me What You Want' and 'We are the Pipettes' recorded specially for XFM"s Xposure radio show, which can be found on 104.9 FM and is one of the few decent things to listen to on the radio late at night. The Pipettes are a three piece all girl group who dress in late 50's and early 60's clothes and sing in true Phil Spector girl group fashion. The themes of their songs are the usual for that era and tell of early feelings of love, holding hands with boys and fashion. The songs are also all played in that early 60's manner, and on them the Pipettes are backed by boy group the Cassettes. It is all great stuff.

Pipettes - Fibbers, York, 7/5/2010
Girl group the Pipettes recently returned to live work in a new line-up after a long absence. At a show at Fibbers in York to promote their forthcoming second album 'Earth vs Pipettes', Russell Ferguson is captivated by their infectious harmonies and current lo-fi electronic disco sound

Gorgeous vinyl only comeback single from still under-rated girl group the Pipettes, who have returned as two-piece
