Yam Yams - At Home With...

Label: Heliotone
Format: 7"
Eclectic indie rock from new guitar and drums duo the Yam Yams, who are "a band to keep an eye out for"

Review

A Yam Yam is a colloquial term for someone from Wolverhampton, something to do with the accent I believe, so there's no prizes for guessing where this two piece come from.  Caroline Lowbridge plays drums, and Tim Howells sings and plays guitar. The duo met at university in Bournemouth, but are now based in London.   'My Sea Song' is the first track on 'At Home With...', which is available as a limited edition 8" lathe cut record, but also available to listen to on Myspace.  'My Sea Song' has a fairground hurdy gurdy sound to it,. It is very understated and simple.  'Cry', the second track, meanders slowly. The guitar, drums and vocals are very clear. It is a sad song.  'Blue Eyes, Skies and Sea' is more upbeat in sound, and the guitar reminds me a bit of the music from Trumpton, or is it Camberwick Green ?  I can't remember which is which these days.  'Take Me Down' has more of an American folk sound to it, with funky undertones.   The Yam Yams are a band to keep an eye out for, if they ever play outside of London that is, and those of you in London should get yourselves along to see them as soon as possible.

Track Listing:-

1 Sea Song
2 Cry
3 Blue Eyes, Skies And Sea
4 Take Me Down
