Little Freddie King - You Don't Know What I Know

Label: Fat Possum
Format: CD
Disappointing compilation from Mississipi blues artist Little Freddie King on the usually reliable Fat Possum label which proves to be surprisingly lacking in soul

Review

Well, old blues singers. Usually I love them, but this is poor, so poor in fact that I can’t believe I have it. Okay, so the voice is good but the guitar playing is just second draw, a poor imitation of blues. I don’t know if this is down to Little Freddie King getting old or if he never could play anything else other than rehashed cliched blues licks. The form is there and to some extent the style to but it doesn’t have that vital element that makes other blues singers great, it just feels to me like it doesn’t have soul. I may be wrong and this whole record may be overflowing with broken hearts, discrimination and sorrow but I just can’t feel it.
