Impressive debut British single on 7" vinyl from New York indie popsters My Favorite, who already list Belle and Sebastian amongst their many fans
Review
Belle and Sebastian are huge fans as are most of my Swedish friends , but, while they are popular elsewhere, this 7" single however, is the debut UK release for New York indie popsters My Favorite.
The A side, 'Happiest Days of My Life', is great fun and has a C86 style. The bassline throbs, and the guitars cuts huge riffs, recalling Primal Scream at the time of 'Sonic Flower Groove' and their self-titled second album before they resorted to full on rock guitar. The vocals are by Andrea Vaughn who sings the song in a way that is reminiscent of Kirsty MacColl singing her cover of Billy Bragg's 'A New England'. My Favorite are huge fans of everything from the 80's but only the cool bands and it shows on this. Good on them.
The B side, The Suburbs are Killing Us', is sung by Michael Grace, Jr, with strong backing vocals from Andrea. It sounds like a track that could of come from Prefab Sprout's classic 'Swoon'.
Bloody perfect !
