Debut single from new Brit rockers White Lies, whom seems destined to make Top 10 and NME column space
Review
Brit rock is on its return leg it seems. The opening track 'Numb' of this 6 track taster from new indie hopefuls White Lies is a catchy high energy number in the vein of Athlete, Coldplay and many other current Indie kids. This doesn't necessarily make it bad, but just limits its appeal slightly. Obviously looking at the current trend it won't limit it very much but whereas many of the currens speight of bands have an underlying uplifting element to their music, there is a real sense of impending doom with these songs, which in turn makes them incredibly epic. Not a bad thing in my eyes. With the addition of trumpet on the fourth track 'Millionaire' it shows these guys have an ear for lifting a tune beyond the standard rock and roll 4 piece.
I can see this band making Top Ten and challenging others such as Snow Patrol for NME column space. From their press release it seems they ain't that far away from this goal and I wish them good luck . I am sure that when Radio 1 has gone overkill on playing their single we will all become sick of it much the same as we do for all current hot young things. Cool Hammond organ though.
