Conway Story - Even When The Wind Blows

Label: Kooba Records
Format: CDS
Standard pop-rock from new British act the Conway Story, which recalls elements of the Smiths, Blur and the early Manics

Review

The press release for this single says that one of the Conway Story’s prime influences is the Pixies, but it’s hard to hear that here. What you do get is pretty standard pop-rock; not bad, but not particularly great either. You can hear elements of the Smiths in the vocal melodies and the second track, the better one in my opinion, sounds a little bit like Blur and early-ish Manics, but the lyrics in particular are really off-putting in that they aren’t very good. This is the major problem with this single. The music may not instantly set you on fire, but it is accomplished. The lyrics, however, do not really have any redeeming features.
