Review

Forget whatever side project members of Of Montreal have been involved with. Track And Field must be a little proud to have this album on their roster. 'Satanic Panic in The Attic' balances on the edge of mysterious beauty, but combines this with snappy tunes. Square dancing to this makes sense ! Just don't be afraid to do so ! 'Satanic Panic In The Attic' finds Of Montreal (Hello Toronto!) displaced in despair when they should be enjoying a breezy summer spell in the United Kingdom. To their own subconscious amazement, Of Montreal hark back to Cleveland, Ohio's the Styrenes. To this Of Montreal add a neurotically flavoured latin percussion and shoot back with a solid dozen tunes of which at least five songs rank among the best I've heard in weeks. Geezus, Of Montreal have jumped on a even bigger sunbeam than on the one before. Whereas Dressy Bessy couldn't get a grip on me just the other day, with one notable exception, Of Montreal do little which is ground breaking, but do produce ever-so-pleasant tunes pretty much in the same mould. These do stand true, however, to their own standards. Fit for summer longings and veggie beach barbeques 'Satanic Panic in The Attic' displays a hot shower of songs, each of which is reminiscent of something good. The one, two, three, four touch to this album does not do justice to the Of Montreal consumption of pop musicbut, just as you're guess where these satanic verses all came from, you'll find yourself looking back to an original version of history.

Of Montreal - KOKO, London, 16/10/2008
At the London KOKO, Mark Rowland finds Athens, Georgia-based band Of Montreal's eccentric form of orchestral rock and stage theatricals occasionally becoming too pretentious for their own good, but overall totally riveting
