Essential budget-priced emo compilation from the Deep Elm label, which shows off some of the better known names on the scene
Review
Another compilation from Deep Elm! This time it is a sampler of some of the tracks from the best albums released in the last few years by the label, and it is very cheap. Deep Elm is the essential emo label, and from that you’ll probably know if you’re going to like this record or not. Emo, to me, is one of the most amazing types of music out there but a lot of people confuse it with pop punk and won't listen to it as a result, which is a shame.
If you’re curious about emo there are two good places to start. First, there is Ignition Record’s amazing comp 'Firework Anatomy', which promotes some of the best up and coming bands on the scene, and this comp, which shows off some of the more established names. There is a lot of great stuff here, especially Brandtson’s melodic rock, Appleseed Cast and Logh’s post rock and Red Animal War’s throttling hardcore. If you like alternative rock music at all, then this compilation is essential, though the more seasoned emo kid will be disappointed by the lack of exclusive tracks or many new names. Still, if you want that then Deep Elm will be putting out another of their Emo Diaries compilations soon, I bet!
