Hirameka Hi Fi - Sprezzatura

Label: Gringo Records
Format: CD
Promising, but flawed debut album from "Leeds answer to Fugazi", Hirameka Hi Fi

Review

I'm really sorry. I really am. Those are the final words on 'Czech Neck', one of the tracks, on 'Sprezzatura' , which explains the attitude with which it was recorded by Hirameka Hi Fi Phase 3. Through various line-ups Hirameka have developed into becoming Leeds' answer to Fugazi. Brit emo core's brightest hopes, Hirameka Hi Fi however can't keep up with the rate forced by their own ingeniousness. Towards its end, 'Sprezzatura' wears thin, while at the start 'it has all the right chords and hooks. 'Take on the Break' and 'Redemption Kicker' are both available as downloads from the Gringo Records website, and offer the best the Hirameka Hi Fi trio can deliver at this stage. Singer/guitarist Tom Coogan strolls through a fine series of virulent shouts and snare assaults, yet he can't cover up for the absence of a fourth member. The band holds the promise of great things ahead and hints at such with this debut offering. 'Sprezzatura' should be digested, however, in parts as the big Hirameka dish has yet to be served.
