Japancakes - Belmondo / Bliss Out V 19

Label: Darla
Format: CD
"Beautiful" third album from Athens, Georgia based group, which closes in "on Tortoise and Tristeza territory"

Review

Closing in on Tortoise and Tristeza territory here, Japancakes have landing on 'Belmondo', upon this, the first of their records, that I have heard. Sounding remotely esoteric, theirs are soundscapes with just enough sparkles to prevent you from fancying to nod off. These 6 tracks touch on jazz, ambient and feature a little experimental composition, yet never fail to fuel your own imagination. The coherence of 'Handguns & Firearms' offers a drama setting and tells of a simple story. There are no vocals or spoken word on 'Belmondo' - beautiful world is the meaning of this the way. Instead Japancakes have six excellent musicians.

Track Listing:-

1 And Begun
2 Handguns and Firearms
3 Theme For A Film
4 Always Stuck With Leaving
5 Duluth 7.5
