Oddfellows Casino - Giant Redwoods

Label: Pickled Egg
Format: 7"
Classic sounding Beach Boys influenced debut single from new British group

Review

Since Brian Wilson hasn't released anything decent recently, Oddfellows Casino, British though they may be, perform an ingenuous ditty that in the old days could only have come on a Beach Boys album. 'Put The Bird To Sleep' has a haunting beauty. Graceful cello playing from Simon Janes lays the foundation for this miniature classic which is clock is in at just over two minutes. The best debut of the year so far. 'Giant Redwoods' on the flip side is folkpop with and has a dominant role for an organ, played by singer David Bramwell whose voice is reminiscent of Colin Blunstone. Only a thousand or so pressed on firm vinyl. This is definitely one to chase down and relax with.
