Collection of remixes from impressive "post rock Cocteau Twins/4AD style group" from Bristol
Review
Moksha are a Bristol five piece that I discovered back in 1999, when they supported Patrick Duff's post Strangelove band Moan at a London concert. In those days they called themselves Moksha Sound Concepts, and, after releasing two three CDR only releases, in the three years since then they have released their first ever single 'All These Moments Will be Lost in Time', an EP 'Like Tears in the Rain', and two live four track CDRs, which features two of the tracks which have turned up on this.
After twenty years of gig going, it is very hard for me not to feel "Seen it all before, come on and impress me" but this band grabbed me from the very first note. Frontwoman Victoria's vocals are like those of a husky, hungry Janis Joplin, while the band sound like a post rock Cocteau Twins/4AD style group. There is a lots of throbbing bass, and just enough bubbling under guitar lines. To be honest, this CD, the first four tracks of which are remixes, doesn't compare to their earlier work. Maybe, however, they are a looking for a more commercial market. Think a groovier Garbage ! Still though this is one of the best bands that I have seen in years. To hear the true sound of the band skip to track 5 onwards.
