Yes! He is back. It has only been a few weeks since Christian Govoni, the musician and main force behind Italian post-rock act La Nuit Americaine released a limited edition of his debut album ‘Serenadze’ exclusively through the Pennyblackmusic site. The album deservedly met with such popularity that it has now nearly sold out. Later this year we should be treated to a LNA live release on the French micro-label hinah, and also a four song EP on the Japanese label Teleran, who found out about la Nuit Americaine after reading about them on this site. A wonderful connection. Don’t you think? Before all that though we have a single ‘Blue in the Mist’’, which limited to 200 copies and only available on 7" vinyl has been released on the independent Manchester record label Emma’s House. So, turn the lights off then because Christian is setting off into the deep blue night to illuminate the darkness.... The wintry sound of a guitar introduces ‘Blue In The Mist’. Does that sound familiar? That’s because it is. If you have heard La Nuit Americaine before, then you will know that this group has a unique character . A violin played by Teresa, (an additional musician and more importantly a good friend of Christian's) then tunes in a few moments later and after that drums get the whole thing moving. When Christian adds his vocals, the music instinctively follows them. While he honestly exposes his feelings, its drifts around and reliably provides a solid background. ‘A Certain Goodbye’, the B side, which also appears in another version on ‘Serenadze’ , is however, based more around detached streams of sound. Christian’s honest vocals are sung from the depth of his heart. The music has a dramatic feel, and surrounds the vocals, until we hear their last words " Then disappear. Just like people."and the muffled sound of a thump closes the song. The best review for Christian Govoni’s music is simply in the music itself. As he has said in his own words "There is nothing else in my life, except for what is inside those tracks and lyrics. If people judge my music they will judge me."
