Beautiful Pigeon, an exciting new project from the British independent music scene, is committed exclusively to releasing 7” singles that are both unique and of quality. The idea here, I guess, is that the fans will build up a l trust in their taste so as to be introduced to lots of new bands and to buy every release. Mos Eisley join the better known Spraydog (who offer 'You are What I Love') and Mark Smilex/Outermission (an electronica based outfit, whose release is 'Zostersimplex'') in the opening trio of Beautiful Pigeon acts.
While Mos Eisley come from Newcastle, they serve up two sides of indie-rock which is influenced by the US underground. Both tracks are pretty strong, and whilst it is clear who they are emulating, it never sounds as if they are ripping anybody else off. The first side is two and a half minutes long, and is nice and catchy. Fans of bands like Seafood, Sebadoh and more melodic hardcore are sure to enjoy it. The second side is slower and, at nearly six minutes, longer. The sound is similar to the A-Side but I think I prefer it. They take a little longer to develop the tune and show off a larger range of capabilities, from gentle and tuneful, to loud and heavy with a hint of electronics. This is a pretty strong single, and shows a lot of potential. I hope I hear more from the band soon. They deserve, on the strength of this single, to do very well. They will be touring the UK to support the single and I suggest that, if you live in Britain, you check them out.
