Pennyblackmusic is delighted to announce that our next London Bands Night will take place at The Sebright Arms in East London on Saturday 1st October. Doors will open at 8.00 p.m. with the first band on at 8.15 p.m. Tickets can be bought in advance at http://www.wegottickets.com/event/368261for £6 and on the door for £7. MADAM After playing three times before at our nights, we are happy to welcome Madam back on the bill. Fronted by the charismatic chanteuse Sukie Smith, Madam's noirish, nocturnal music brings to mind PJ Harvey, Portishead, and Cat Power at their smokey, intoxicating, late night best. The band have released two critically acclaimed previous albums, 'In Case of Emergency' and 'Gone Before Morning'; have collaborated with artists such as Swervedriver's Adam Franklin, and completed a soundtrack for the debut feature film of Neophyte Films, 'Hush Your Mouth' - an "urban ghost story." Madam’s long-awaited third album, ‘Back to the Sea’, will be released digitally on the 5th August and on limited edition vinyl on the 23rd September. http://www.madamband.com http:/www.facebook.com/madammusic IDIOT SON Idiot Son remain something of a hidden secret. Based around frontman Andy Thompson, the band formed in the late 90s, but only released their first single, 'Sunflowers', in 2000. It would take another four years before they would release their debut album, 'Lummox', on their own Poppycock label, featuring shimmering, solitary acoustic guitar and cello alongside conventional drums and bass, all winding around Thompson's wry observations of the capital city and its stories. Now they are returning after a recording absence of ten years with their second album, the similarly sublime ‘Stibbington’. Tracks such as ‘Hold the Engines’,. ‘Like a Lot of Men Can Do’ and ‘HeadSwimming’ build on Thompson’s melancholic themes of love, heartache and urban living. This gig at the Sebright Arms will be Idiot Son’s first London appearance since a previous Pennyblackmusic gig in January 2015. https://www.facebook.com/idiotsonuk DREAM MAPS Dream Maps is the project of London-based experimental musician and multi-instrumentalist Dominic Simpson. His fascination with UVB-76, a mysterious radio station believed to owned by the Russian military has provided much of the inspiration for Dream Maps’ largely instrumental debut album, ‘In Stormy Nights’, which , released in January, has been described as a work of “desolate but ethereal and haunting beauty.” Dream Maps' debut live performance will be at this gig. https://dreammaps1.bandcamp.com Pennyblackmusic Live at The Sebright Arms, 31-35 Coate Street (off Hackney Road), London, E2 9AG Saturday 1st October 2016 Doors 8 p.m. First band on 8.15 p.m. Tickets £6 in adv from http://www.wegottickets.com/event/368261. £7 on the door.
