One of the most undervalued acts of the 1980s, new wave/post-punk band the Sound recorded five studio albums between 1980 and 1987. Since their front-man Adrian Borland's tragic death in 1999 at the age of 42, they have gone through a partial reverse of fortunes, being seen as increasingly influential. Last year saw the release of a first box set which compiled together their earlier work between 1980 and 1984, and now a second box set containing music from their latter years has also come out. It is hoped as well that a crowd-funded documentary film 'Walking in the Opposite Direction' about Adrian Borland's life, and made by a team of Dutch filmmakers, will also be released later this year. We at Pennyblackmusic have been fans of the Sound for many years, and have been given ten copies of 'There Must Be a Hole in Your Memory', a seventeen song tribute CD to the Sound, which has been compiled by Canadian label, the Beautiful Music www.thebeautifulmusic.com. Thank you to Wally Salem there. 'There Must Be a Hole in Your Memory' was originally created in support of the 'Walking in the Opposite Direction' documentary and is otherwise unavailable, although an extended double CD version will eventually follow. To win a copy, answer the following question: What is the name of the Sound's original keyboardist, who Pennyblackmusic gave her first interview to in over thirty years last year? Please mail your answer to john.clarkson@pennyblackmusic.co.uk by Monday April 6th. All winners will picked by automated draw and notified directly by email.
