Fabulous double A-sided vinyl single from Medway-based garage rockers, Galileo 7
Review
I often find myself exploring and writing about the process around a particular release. We live in a world where music, arguably the most invaluable commodity, is distributed in a way that immeasurably devalues it.
When I see a band, in this case, UK’s Galileo 7 release a 7” single (on quite a limited run, no less) I say, go ahead. The old way worked before, which is more than any one can say for the new models of music distribution.
Both tracks on the Galileo 7 single are quite similar – 60’s garage rock, filled with a psychedelic sound that would make anyone nostalgic for a return to the 'Nuggets' era. Even in the CD or MP3 version (they didn’t send me one of the five hundred pressed vinyl copies, bummer) has the feeling of antiquity – mono production, jangle guitars and thick bass drowning out Allan Crockford’s vocals on both 'One Lie at a Time' and 'The God Gaps', which opens with some crashing percussion that makes you want to run out in the driveway and see if the neighbours' kids have taken up in the garage.
Galileo 7 call this a double A-sided recording – meaning, there are no B-Sides. No throwaways, and after listening to these two tracks (over and over, with windows open) I believe them. They blew past the B-side miles back.
