Bill Gray photographs Kentucky-born but Nashville-based country musician Sturgill Simpson at a show in Glasgow
Article
Sturgill Simpson is a Kentucky-born but Nashville-based country artist.
When he began recording his debut solo album 'High Top Mountain', which takes it name from a landmark in Kentucky not far from where Simpson grew up, he set out with the intention making the most uncompromising, hard country album that anyone has made in thirty years.
He has largely managed to do this. 'High Top Mountain' has won Simpson much acclaim for the blues-soaked honesty of his vocals and its old-fashioned and timeless country sound.
While he used a band for 'High Top Mountain', which has been released on Loose Music in the United Kingdom, Simpson usually tours solo.
These stunning black-and-white photographs of Sturgill Simpson were taken by Bill Gray at a show at the Admiral Bar on February 23rd in Glasgow.
